Gentlemen!
The Battle of Bentonville, The South's last chance to stop Sherman in his
tracks, is held once every five years, and 2010 is the year.
This event, _Bentonville Reenactment_ ( http://www.bentonvi lle145.com/ ) ,
will be held on March 20-21. The 12th NJ is chartering a bus that will be
open to all Mifflin Guard members.
The DETAILS:
The bus will leave the South Jersey area on Thursday night, the 18th, well
after working hours. This way, you will only need to take off Friday.
We will arrive Friday morning which will allow you plenty of time to set up
camp and explore the area. In addition, the 12th will have a truck down
there to move everyone's gear from the lot to the camp (about 200 yds.)
We will leave right after the final battle on Sunday ( starts at 1:30 PM)
and will be home about midnight. You could make work Monday if you really
wanted to.
The 12th NJ Commissary will be there, supplying Friday dinner, Saturday
breakfast, lunch and dinner and Sunday breakfast at nominal cost.
If 30 men sign up for the trip, the cost is $94.00 per person. If more sign
up, the cost comes down. The bus is a 55 seater, with a bathroom and a DVD
system.
Right now, I just need to know who is interested in going on the bus, so
hit the 'reply' button and reserve your seat now. You can cancel out anytime
up until three weeks before the trip.

REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE
Please be on hand behind the old high school at noon on Saturday. We will be forming companies then. Plan accordingly. We don't want to have to realign at the last minute. Dress parade and ceremony prior to the parade will be at 12:15.
Troops are requested to bring a pair of white gloves. Enlisted men and nco's are to wear caps or kepis, no slouch hats! No gaitors or backpacks. Polish your brass! Greatcoats are acceptable if weather is too cold. Leave ammunition at home.
As usual, colors will be massed at our center company. If your unit is carrying colors you must provide a one man escort for the rear rank of the color company. A first and second sergeant are needed for the color company.
We will march the parade route and then proceed to the Meade Monument to honor our ancestors and fallen members of the Mifflin Guard. Please contact Scott Washburn to list a recently lost member.

Annual Gettysburg Battlefield Tour
Once again we will be hosting a Battlefield Tour on Friday November 20 th meeting at 1:00 pm at the old Guide Station located just off Chambersburg Pike (Rt. 30 Wes t leaving town) at Stones Ave. right across the road from Reynolds's Equestrian/Buford Statues. Please try to arrive a little early so we can start the tour close to 1:00.
As in years past Rich Kohr has agreed to lend his expertise and knowledge for our benefit; this year's topic will be an overall look at the retreat of the First Army Corps that actually went through the streets of town on its way toward Cemetery Ridge. We have a couple options this year as far as how we will travel along the tour route. One option (which I think will work best) would be to place a few vehicles near the Dobbins House and then walk the tour from Seminary Ridge into town to an area near Cemetery Ridge. This way when we complete the tour we'll have a few vehicles there to shuttle drivers back to the starting point. The other option would be carpooling along the route; this could work but it does pose a problem of where to park along the way especially when we get into town. As you all know that weekend can be pretty crowded.
Any of you who have attended in the past know full well that Rich always gives an extremely interesting and educational tour mixed in with a bunch of laughs along the way. It always amazes me how many in depth and detailed stories Rich always seems to share. If you haven't attended in the past I encourage all comers to make the tour. I know it might be quite a long walk so dress according to the weather and have good (warm) walking shoes; and you might want to bring along something to drink and snack on since we will be out for quite a while; this is not your typical Battlefield Guide tour, our tours always last longer.
Of course since Rich basically volunteers his time for us it's only fitting that we “pass the hat” again this year as a thank you to Rich for reserving his afternoon for us. So please come prepared to drop a few bucks in the hat; trust me it's a REAL BARGAIN.
Thanks and I hope to see a great turnout,

I lost two valuable coins at Cedar Creek, an 1863 Indian Head Penny and an 1860 half-dollar with a hole in the top. They were in a small plaid ration bag that I probably dropped somewhere. I know that there is only a small probability that someone will find and report them, but if they do, please let me know. A good friend gave them to me, and he will be disappointed if I can't find them. Can you please post this on the Mfflin Guard website? Thank you.

We have added a new sutler to the sutler page at the request of Cliff Speer from the 12th New Jersey. Cliff state, "I myself have purchased a Federal Frock coat and a pair of NCO trousers and the quality is first-rate. They do the work for the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA. If you would like their website it's: www.provisionalsupply.com . Ken Friedman is the fellow I have spoken to in the past and he is a very nice fellow. I am not getting any kind of stipend for doing this. I just want the MG and any other reenacting orginization to benefit from them as I have. They pride themselves in manufacturing museum grade wares and uniforms for less than sutler row prices.

Attention all Mifflin Guard members friends and family; the 150 th PV Companies C & F; will be hosting our annual battlefield tour with Rich Kohr (Licensed Battlefield Guide) on Friday November 16 th the day before Remembrance Day. This year ' s proposed tour will be rather interesting; we will be touring the route of the historic Electric Trolley Line that covered many key locations on the battlefield. Rich has presented this tour to a few different groups including a Sons of Union Veterans group all of which enjoyed the tour very much. The tour will start on Cemetery Ridge; we will meet at the Visitors Center as always then proceed to locations near there including areas near the National Cemetery and down towards Pickett's Charge area. From there the tour will have us driving to the Wheatfield area and covering the areas near there which will include Devils Den and Little Round Top. Rich mentioned that he has several photos of the old trolley and lots of info as usual; he also mentioned that the addition of the trolley there contributed the establishment of the Nation al Park. Our tours with Rich in the past several years have been awesome; I promise you won ' t be disappointed .
So; if anyone plans to attend the Friday tour here is what you need to know.
We will gather at the Visito r s Center on Tanneytown Road at around 12:30 pm we should try to start the tour promptly at 1:00 pm. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes because as you can see we will be walking quite a bit; and of course dress according to the weather. Bring something a drink or a snack if needed; because we will be out there for a few hours.
We will be “ passing the hat ” to collect as much money as we can to give to Rich; we do this every year and it ' s not asking a lot to drop a few bucks (as much as you can) to thank Rich for his time and expertise. If you were to hire Rich as a Licensed Battlefield Guide it would cost you about $40.00 for a couple hours. We will be getting him for a lot longer time and will get more detailed info than most tours ever get . So ; please pl a n to be as generous as you can afford , Rich has agreed to do these tour s for us mainly out of friendship and support of folk who really appreciate history.
Any questions please contact Joe Conroy at –

The Mifflin Guard will hold a brief general membership meeting at Neshaminy. This will not take too long. We have a couple of updates and need to vote on probationary units who are patiently waiting to become full members. We have two units petitioning to join the Mifflin Guard as well. We did not get a chance to meet as School of Soldier was cancelled.
February 27 , 2007
The School of the Soldier/Battalion is cancelled for this weekend. Unfortunately, there were insufficient numbers registered to effectively do any battalion drill. Since most of the Mifflin Guard units hold their own School of the Soldier and School of the Company, it seemed unnecessary to have our members travel to Wilkes-Barre if we could not have a decent School of the Battalion. Thank you for those who did respond and were intending to attend the School. The general membership meeting usually held during our MG School of the Soldier will take place at Neshaminy this year. The exact day and time are yet to be determined. The meeting will be short but we need to vote our comrades from the 28th MASS and the 13th PA Reserves to full membership. A new unit seeking probationary status, the 7th West Virginia will also be introduced.
February 22 , 2007
Folks, Scott Washburn was recently informed by Tom Holbrook that the Gettysburg NPS will be celebrating the anniversary of the battle on the weekend of July 7th & 8th. Hope this won't pose a problem as they have requested us for that weekend. This would change from the proposed date of June 30th/July 1st. It is a great honor that we are requested to be part of this historic and monumental location's presentation. There will be a program with Scott Hartwig this year as well which we will be part of. Please send me your unit's availability. Regards, Andy Siganuk
February 22 , 2007
Friends, The 12th NJ will drill at Ft. Mott, just below Pennsville, NJ on Saturday, March 24th. This is a great park and part of the three fort system strung across the Delaware between Ft. Delaware. We would be pleased to have your unit or any members that would like to join us this day. The 12th NJ will commence drill at 9:30 AM. Come out and shake the dust off and tour the facility! If interested contact me at asiganuk@comcast.net
February 11 , 2007
Hello All, I have the honor of receiving a letter of intent to join the Mifflin Guard and roster of the 7th West Virginia. They have already received a number of endorsements from existing members. I ask you to give your endorsement to probationary status for the 7th at School of Soldier as we didn't get a chance to discuss this matter at the Executive Meeting. Proper documentation for membership has been received and will be available for your review.
. I am asking that we move to give them probationary status at School of the Soldier. We have done this in the past. This is a recent event as we had received word of the 7th WV's desire to join the Mifflin Guard after the executive meeting.

Uniforms Needed for Young Musicians
BSA Troop 53 and the BSA Explorer Post 1863 Fife and Drum Corps are an
affiliation with the 1st PA Reserves. You may have noticed them on
Remembrance Day or at Bull Run last summer. They are soliciting permanent donations of used uniforms and equipment. They are also looking into purchasing new uniforms as scarce funds permit but their main focus has naturally been the instruments for the musicians. They will gratefully accept any donation of used uniforms items--bummers; sack coats or infantry frock; belt with "US" buckle, sky blue pants; suspenders; brogans, and items such as canteens and haversacks. Items needed are for boys ranging from 12-16 years of age and any outgrown uniform part donations are greatly appreciated. If the price is "right", the Corps would also consider purchasing used uniform parts or equipment.
If interested in learning more, or in making a donation, contact Mike Cassidy at [ mailto:newrycassidy@comcast.net ]newrycassidy@comcast.net of phone h.717-426-3941 or at work 717-787-3085. Donated uniform parts and equipment can also be brought to any Mifflin Guard event.
Thank you.
